The Maas Valley, caves and outdoor adventure

About Namur

The province of Namur lies between the Sambre and the Meuse, where the flat fields of Central Belgium give way to the first hills of the Ardennes. Along the Meuse lie towns such as Dinant and Namur itself, with a citadel towering high above the river. Further south, you’ll find forests, limestone cliffs and caves, such as the famous caves of Han-sur-Lesse.

For young families, Namur is a lovely destination for those who want to combine the great outdoors with day trips. The distances are short, and from a gîte in the countryside, you can quickly reach the river, a woodland play area or a castle.

Why go on holiday to Namur?

A holiday in the province of Namur promises a varied break without long car journeys. You can spend a day exploring the caves, take a boat trip on the Meuse or catch a cable car up to the citadel of Namur.

For families with young children, the Domein van Chevetogne is highly recommended: a large leisure park with playgrounds, water features, animals and woodland, where you can easily spend a whole day. After a day like that, an evening in a cottage with a garden is just the ticket.

Vilou’s tip

In Namur, take the cable car up to the citadel. For young children, the ride in the little gondola over the Meuse is an experience in itself, and once at the top, you’ll be treated to a magnificent view of the city and the rivers.

Combine it with a boat trip on the Meuse. That way, you can see the city from the water, without your little one having to walk too far.
